An Evening with Beethoven

This concert presents two chamber works by Beethoven:

The Sextet belongs to his early chamber music period and illustrates his artistic development. Featuring a passionate “Weltschmerz” in the second movement, which in later years characterized all Beethoven’s slow movements, the final Rondo is coined as one of the most poignant works by the composer.

Receiving great acclaim, Beethoven designated the Septet’s individual instruments collectively as obbligato parts noting that: “I can write nothing which is not obbligato as I came into this world myself with an obbligato accompaniment”
